Auntie’s Store was selected as one of the top 20 entries in the Montblanc x Esquire Fiction Writer Project – Short Story Prize 2017.
Taxi was accepted as teaching material at the School Of The Arts (SOTA) for its Literary Arts students in February 2017.
Desmond conducted two sessions of Realist Fiction Masterclass in Short Fiction at the School Of The Arts (SOTA) for its Literary Arts students in February 2017. The Train, Encik, Plate By Plate, As The Rain Fell and Eraser were used as workshop material for the sessions.
Encik was published by Math Paper Press in November 2016 in Balik Kampung 3C: Central Corridors.
Plate By Plate was published in July 2016 in the anthology, Writing The City: Fresh Writing from Singapore II, sponsored by the National Library Board and the British Council.
Eraser was placed third in the the Writing The City competition organised by the British Council with the theme “Shakespeare lives … in Singapore” for the period of January to March 2016. Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu was the Guest of Honour at the prize presentation held on Shakespeare Day 2016.
Eraser, Caffe Latte Conversations, Etch, As The Rain Fell and Reunion were used as instructional material by the School Of The Arts (Singapore) for a Short Story Writing Workshop for primary school students in March 2016.
As The Rain Fell won the Writing The City competition organised by the British Council with the theme “The Prospect of Beauty” for the period of October to December 2014.
Encik was used as part of the Balik Kampung Literary Tour held in conjunction with the Singapore Writers Festival in November 2014.
Reunion was one of five winners of the ELLE Writes competition in 2013 organised in conjunction with the Singapore Writers Festival.
